Gerrit Cole’s next step in injury recovery, revealed
The New York Yankees have been playing some good baseball this season, and they’re not even at full strength yet. They’re still waiting for Gerrit Cole to return from the Tommy John surgery, but he has had several rehab starts that show that he is almost ready to get back to the majors.
There are a few more boxes for Cole to check off before he returns, according to Greg Joyce of NY Post Sports.
“Gerrit Cole is scheduled to make his next rehab start tomorrow with Double-A Somerset. The Yankees expect him to at least need one or two more after that before he is ready to return,” Joyce wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
That’s good news for the Yankees, as they’ll be getting a key piece of their team soon, and he’ll be added to a clubhouse that is already rolling. Throughout his recovery, Cole has also made some tweaks to his windup, and it looks like it’s been working out well for him.
“I don’t really have a good answer for it,” Cole said via Greg Johnson of The Trentonian. “Just throwing the ball with [Yankees PT & Rehab Coordinator] Joe Bello all last summer, just doing this, and it felt kinda good. Keeps the rhythm going, I got a lot of positive feedback, you know? People like it. Not that I make changes if people like it, but it’s nice to hear. I just generally enjoy the rhythm of it. I think it keeps the tempo of the delivery kind of upbeat and fluid.”
Many people are excited to see what Cole will look like when he returns to the majors for the Yankees, and hopefully, he can be a huge contributor to their current success.
