Floyd Mayweather vs Manny Pacquiao will shatter Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson record, claims event chief

Floyd Mayweather vs Manny Pacquiao 2 will break viewership records set by Jake Paul vs Mike Tyson on Netflix.

That is the bold opinion of Pacquiao Promotions CEO Jas Mathur who has been a key cog in putting the blockbuster event together.

It will see two iconic boxing legends of the 21st century will renew their rivalry at Las Vegas’ Sphere on September 18, 11 years on from their commercial blockbuster.

Streaming service Netflix has made a real splash in combat sports in recent years, which included the exhibition between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson in 2024.

The bout attracted a mammoth 108 million viewers worldwide, making it the most streamed sporting event of all-time in a historic night for Netflix.

So it is no wonder they have shown they have unprecedented interest in seeing two of the biggest superstars in the sport’s history do battle again, despite being well beyond their prime.

And Mathur believes that the huge fanbases of both legendary operators make it a guarantee to surpass Paul and Tyson’s feat.

“Massive. More than what we imagined,” Mathur responded to MMA Junkie when asked about the interest so far.

“It’ll beat (108) million. One-hundred percent. Just look at how many people live in Asia, in all of Asia. Look at Manny’s cult following. Floyd is an international icon, too.

“Look at the Netflix subscriptions in Asia and how many subscribers across every country in Asia. What’s the Manny Pacquiao fanbase?

“They don’t have to pay extra for it. They’re going to tune in. Right there, you’ve got your count.

“We’re not even counting Floyd’s fanbase all across the Middle East and North Africa, South Africa, Eastern Europe, Greater Britain, Mexico, Canada, then the United States, Australia.

“You start adding all of this together, those numbers are going to go up. They’re going to go way up.”

The previous fight was paid for by 4.4 million pay–per-viewers with over $400 million generated in revenue.

So it is no surprise organisers are filled with confidence that the event could go down as a success.

Not only will the event have a star-studded line-up, but the venue is going to be part of the entertainment.

The new technology inside the $1.2 billion Las Vegas venue will be hoped to add to a once-in-a-generation experience for the mega event.

It will be the first boxing fight inside these newly constructed walls, but will follow the famous UFC Noche card in 2024.

And UFC president Dana White expects huge running costs to be dished out to stage the clash.

He suggested: “Who’s promoting it? S**t,” he said.

“Wonder who’s paying for production. They’re in for a big surprise.

“It is incredibly expensive. Interesting. They better call somebody. It cost me $20 million.”
