The right-shot defenceman has played 289 career AHL games over five seasons across the Abbotsford Canucks, Barracuda, and Cleveland Monsters, amassing 72 points (14 goals, 58 assists) and 189 penalty minutes. In the 2023-24 season with Cleveland, he put up a career-high five goals and 20 points in 59 games with a +4 rating.

Clayton was originally signed by the Columbus Blue Jackets as an undrafted free agent in 2024 after spending four WHL seasons with the Medicine Hat Tigers, where he finished with 17 goals and 70 assists for 87 points in 210 games. In the 2020-21 WHL season, he led all defencemen with nine goals and 30 points in 23 games, coming away with a +4 rating.

Clayton’s current NHL contract carries $850,000 at the NHL level and $275,000 in the AHL, according to PuckPedia. He remains a restricted free agent after the 2026-27 season.
