Fighter scores breathtaking spinning backfist KO to win world title and continue 100 per cent finish rate

Kaik Brito silenced the Czech Republic crowd at Oktagon 84 when he dramatically knocked out Ronald Paradeiser to become world champion.

Brito, who was unsuccessful at his attempt to reach the UFC in Dana White‘s Contender Series in 2023, faced Paradeiser for the promotion’s vacant welterweight strap on Saturday night.

The pair headlined a stacked Valentine’s night special at Oktagon 84 in Ostrava.

Paradeiser, a former lightweight champion, was hoping to become a two-division king, having scored back-to-back finishes since moving up in weight last summer.

Brito, meanwhile, has a remarkable 100 per cent stoppage rate in his 19 professional MMA wins and was seeking to recapture the belt he once held in 2022.

The 28-year-old from Brazil did exactly that in the most emphatic fashion.

Brito vs Paradeiser – what happened?

In round three, Brito put ‘Rony’ on red alert with a crisp spinning back elbow that had him stumbling on the retreat.

Brito then went on the hunt, landing a nice combination with his Slovakian opponent backed up against the cage.

With Paradeiser clearly hurt, Brito sensed an opening and attempted an audacious spinning backfist.

It connected square on the jaw of Paradeiser, who instantly collapsed onto all fours.

It was all but over as Brito followed up with two weak right hands on the canvas before the referee waved off the contest.

“I’m very thankful for being able to go back and be part of this organisation,” Brito, who lost to Welsh fighter Oban Elliot on the Contender Series, said at Oktagon 84’s post-fight press conference.

“I don’t know why people keep doubting my skills — I’m a complete fighter.

“I had to use all of my weapons to get past Paradeiser because he’s a great fighter.”

Through the stoppage, Brito extended his record to 19-6, with 16 of those wins coming via KO or TKO.

Ahead of the bout, he cited how career-changing advice from fellow Brazilian and MMA legend Wanderlei Silva shaped a new chapter in his career.

“We’ve had some private conversations and things like that,” Brito told MMA Fighting.

“In the past, about six years ago, he told me something he still says today.

“One of the things he’s told me is to take care of my sleep and buy a high-quality bed.

“[He said], ‘Value your mattress, invest in a mattress and sleep well because that’s one of the main pillars for a fighter. Rest, sleep well.'”

Elsewhere at Oktagon 84, ex-welterweight king and fan-favourite David Kozma dominated Jozef Wittner to claim a unanimous decision win.
