Ferencvaros vs Rangers predictions and betting tips – Last chance saloon for Gers

With one point to their name from a possible 15, Rangers are running out of time to make an impression in the Europa League. A play-off berth is still achievable, but this is a must-win match for the Scottish giants.

Will Rangers come out on top against Ferencvaros of Hungary, or are their fans in store for another difficult night on the continent?

Ferencvaros vs Rangers predictions

Rangers had a dismal start to the season, but things are slowly beginning to look up in the Scottish Premiership.

Danny Rohl remains unbeaten in the league since he was appointed as Russell Martin’s successor on October 20 (it may surprise you to learn that Rangers have only lost one game in the Premiership this term, two fewer than Celtic).

Rangers have risen from 10th in September to fourth after a 3-0 victory over Kilmarnock at the weekend. They are now only six points behind Celtic, who lost to Heart of Midlothian in a top-of-the-table clash on Sunday.

However, Rangers fans have not had much to celebrate in Europe. A crushing 9-1 aggregate defeat by Club Brugge in the Champions League play-offs consigned them to the Europa League, where Rangers proceeded to lose their first four games in the league phase.

They only scored one goal in that time, leaving them rooted to the foot of the 36-team table.

Rangers managed to stop the rot last time out, drawing 1-1 with Braga at Ibrox in November. Rohl’s side were 1-0 up when Braga had a man sent off on the hour mark, but they were still unable to emerge triumphant.

There are many valid criticisms of the new league phase setup in UEFA competitions, but it does at least make it difficult for a team to be completely cut adrift after five games.

Indeed, while Rangers have taken a solitary point from the first 15 available, they remain in the hunt for a play-off place.

A five-point deficit will not be easy to overturn, but three wins in their last three matches would potentially be enough for Rangers to extend their participation in the tournament beyond the league phase.

“I think they felt today we were really competitive, I think in the last games they didn’t have that feeling that we were competitive in Europe,” Rohl said after the Braga match.

“I really had the feeling that we controlled this game, and it was for me the first time in Europe that we controlled a game and from this part it is the right way.

“We want to win more games in this competition, we have to, but we have to be honest to each other and I see my group getting better and better every day and it is the process.”

Can Rangers finally pick up a win in the Europa League, or will Ferencvaros come out on top?

More gloom for Rangers

Ferencvaros are faring much better in this competition. They too lost in the Champions League play-offs, but they sit sixth in the Europa League standings ahead of matchday six.

With three wins and two draws to their name, the Hungarian outfit are one of only four unbeaten teams in the tournament.

Robbie Keane’s team are top of the Hungarian league and have won six of their last seven domestic matches, so they will be full of confidence ahead of Rangers’s visit.

The Gers have not given up on the Europa League, but they will struggle to match Ferencvaros’s motivation.

And despite their recent improvements back home, Rangers may also be second best in terms of quality.

At least three goals

Ferencvaros have scored in each of their five matches in the Europa League this term, so Rangers’s backline will be tested here.

The Scottish giants have picked up going forward themselves since Rohl took charge, and they will like their chances of finding the back of the net in this one.

If Rangers were to beat the Ferencvaros goalkeeper, their opponents would need to score at least twice to win.

We can see something like that happening. Three goals is likely to be the minimum we see on Thursday.

Varga the main man

With 13 goals in 28 caps for Hungary, Barnabas Varga is an effective centre-forward.

That is true at club level as well. In 105 appearances for Ferencavaros, the club he joined in 2023, he has scored 68 times.

He has been particularly prolific in 2025/26. His 26 outings for Keane’s crew have yielded 19 goals, including three in the Europa League.

Rangers will have to keep a close eye on Varga, but even that might not be enough to keep him off the scoresheet.
