Ex-Raiders WR Henry Ruggs denied parole in car accident case
It’s been about five years since Henry Ruggs III was involved in a car accident after driving under the influence after a night out in Las Vegas that left a victim and her dog dead. The former Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver was initially sentenced to three to 10 years in prison. With it being the five-year mark, Ruggs asked for parole to potentially get out of prison sooner.
On Thursday, however, Ruggs was denied parole, according to ESPN. It appears he will remain in prison for the time being. The possibility of serving the full 10-year sentence is still a possibility.
“Ex-NFL player Henry Ruggs III was denied parole nearly five years after killing a woman in a car crash in Las Vegas, the Nevada Board of Parole Commissioners ruled Thursday,” reported ESPN.
It’s said that when the incident happened on November 2, 2021, Ruggs was leaving TopGolf, driving up to 156 mph through the city before hitting another vehicle, which led to 23-year-old Tina Tintor and her dog dying.
In May 2023, the former first-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft pleaded guilty to felony DUI causing death and misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter, and was given a three to 10-year prison sentence. Reports indicate that Henry Ruggs III will have another parole meeting about three months before his scheduled Aug. 24, 2027, mandatory parole release date, per the executive director of the Nevada Board of Parole Commissioners, Kathi Baker.
Henry Ruggs III played about one and a half seasons with the Raiders before the car accident. In 20 games played (19 starts), Ruggs recorded 50 receptions for 921 yards and four touchdowns.
