Every Arsenal and Man City result predicted as Premier League title race goes to the wire

Man City blew the Premier League title race wide open with a 2-1 win over Arsenal on Sunday.

And talkSPORT pundits have been predicting how they see it ending with just a few games to play.

The Gunners arrived at the Etihad with a six-point lead over City and left with that being cut to three.

But Pep Guardiola‘s side have a game in hand, so by the time Arsenal next play, they could be second on goal difference.

That is a far cry from a few weeks ago when the Gunners were ten points clear after a 2-0 win over Everton.

Since then, Man City have found a rhythm and Arsenal have lost to Bournemouth and now their title rivals.

If Mikel Arteta‘s men win all of their remaining fixtures, they can reach 85 points, which City can only manage if they win all of their matches as well, including their game in hand against Crystal Palace.

So, it’s looking like it is going right to the wire, and talkSPORT pundits have been casting their predictions for the remainder of the season.

McCoist and Stelling

First up is the dynamic duo of Jeff Stelling and Ally McCoist.

The Scotsman believes that win for City at the Etihad has swung the momentum back in their favour despite Arsenal still being top.

Speaking on talkSPORT Breakfast, he said: “I think City are favourites just because of the momentum, but City probably slightly edge it in terms of tougher games.

“But the form they are in, and the momentum they are carrying, and the belief makes them the favourites.

“Arsenal will be disappointed, but I thought their overall performance wasn’t too shabby.”

Later on Breakfast, McCoist and Stelling sat down and worked out how many points the two giants will get in their remaining Premier League games.

McCoist went first.

“Burnley away – three points. Everton away – a point. Brentford at home – three points. Bournemouth away – one point. Crystal Palace at home – three points. Aston Villa – three points.

“That means they are going to get 14 points.

“Arsenal: Newcastle at home – three points. Fulham at home – three points. West Ham away – one point. Burnley at home – three points. Palace away – three points.

“Arsenal are winning it by two points. Let’s move on.”

Stelling asked McCoist to go back through his list before saying, “I’ve given Arsenal 13 points, but I’ve given City 16, so it would go down to goal difference.”

McCoist then added: “It could.

“I definitely accept that the momentum has swung with City – I don’t think there is any doubt about that.

“But it’s going to go all the way.”

Perry Groves

So, McCoist can see Arsenal just pipping City to the title, and that is certainly what Perry Groves wants as well.

And the Gunners legend is backing his club to get the job done.

He also joined Breakfast to discuss the title race and agrees with McCoist that Arsenal will win the title.

He said: “It’s in Man City’s favour.

“But it was a massive pressure game yesterday, but it probably did Arsenal a favour playing away from home because the expectancy is less.

“Arsenal have to go on the front foot in every game they play, starting with Newcastle on Saturday, and at the Emirates, there has been a nervousness, and that happened in the Bournemouth game.

“I said at the start of the season we’d win it, and I am still going to stick with it because I think you could have a 1989 season, where it does come down to goal difference or goals scored.

“Both teams have got to play Burnley, so Burnley could have a big say.

“Man City probably just deserved the win yesterday, but the atmosphere around the Etihad was as if they’d won it.

“So, if you are an Arsenal player, you want to make sure you ram those songs that I had to take for 20 minutes back down their throats, but the pendulum has swung in Man City’s favour.”

Martin Keown

And another Gunners legend in Martin Keown still believes Arsenal can do it.

He feels Man City have momentum, but the pressure will now be back on them.

Speaking on White and Jordan, he said: “Arsenal can win this. They can still win it. I know they’ve opened the door…

“The League Cup final impacted the players, and I thought they were second best, but they weren’t second best yesterday. I didn’t really see it.

“I don’t like using that word (bottle), and I think it is far too early to be talking about that. I saw everybody giving their best yesterday, I didn’t see anybody struggling.

“If Havertz scored in the last minute, I see that as a fair result, so we still go to war.

“If Arsenal had got a draw, we would be bang on favourites

“But they (Man City) are coming together at the right time. They’ve found a rhythm.

“But the pressure must swing because Man City are on for a treble.”
