Everton v Newcastle prediction
Newcastle make the trip to Merseyside on Saturday as marginal favourites for victory in their first ever visit to the Hill Dickinson Stadium, and will be looking to get back to winning ways following their 2-1 defeat at Marseille in the Champions League on Tuesday.
Defeat in France in midweek means that Eddie Howe’s side have now lost three of their last five games in all competitions, but will still carry some confidence from their 2-1 win over Manchester City in their most recent Premier League outing last Saturday.
The victory saw the Magpies move four points clear of the Premier League’s relegation zone in 14th, in what has been a slow domestic start to the season for the Tyneside club, but now find themselves just three points off the top half and only six off the top four.
The Magpies head to Liverpool with an unwanted record away from home, having won only one of their eight games on their travels all season, and their midweek defeat means they have now lost each of their last four on the road.
In contrast, Everton head into the weekend having picked up back to back victories from their last two outings, at home against Fulham and notably ending Manchester United’s winning streak at Old Trafford on Monday night.
Last weekend’s victory in Manchester signalled the first time David Moyes’ men have managed to string together back to back clean sheets this season, and saw them leapfrog their fierce rivals Liverpool in the table, with now only goals scored separating them from the top half.
The Toffees are now unbeaten in their last three matches and return to their new home stadium this weekend where they’ve lost only once in seven competitive matches since leaving Goodison Park at the end of last season.
Newcastle are winless in their last four meetings with Everton, but two of the last three matches have ended in stalemates, and I can see another one being played out at the Hill Dickinson on Saturday evening – I’m predicting a 1-1 draw.
Everton v Newcastle betting tips
A draw at the Dickinson
Two of the last three meetings between the two sides have ended in draws, while Everton have lost just one of their last seven matches since moving to their brand new Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Newcastle have the squad strength to beat the Toffees but will be eager for a positive result after defeat in the Champions League on Tuesday, though they’ll hope last weekend’s win over Manchester City is the start of a domestic run to kickstart their climb up the table.
- Draw and both teams to score at 10/3 with bet365
Barnes on a barnstorming run
Harvey Barnes has been in spectacular form for Newcastle in recent weeks, his goal in Marseille on Tuesday his fourth in his last three games, which has taken his tally to seven for the season, more than any other player in either side heading into the weekend.
- Harvey Barnes to score at 16/5 with BetMGM
Joelinton back in the book
Similarly, Joelinton has been on the receiving end of more yellow cards than any other player in either squad this season.
The Newcastle midfielder picked up his sixth caution of the campaign in his most recent appearance, the victory over Manchester City last weekend.
- Joelinton to be carded at 11/4 with bet365
