Eli Manning continues to advocate for food allergy awareness in honor of 11-year-old Giants fan

Eli Manning is continuing to advocate for food allergy awareness.

In 2016, Oakley Debbs died after accidentally ingesting cake containing nut resin, triggering anaphylactic shock, seizures, and cardiac arrest, according to Snack Safely. Since then, his parents, Merrill and Robert, established “Red Sneakers for Oakley” since he famously wore red sneakers. The two-time Super Bowl champion went to social media to continue his advocacy for Oakley, who was a New York Giants fan — a team in which Manning spent his entire 16-year NFL career.

“I’m wearing red sneakers in honor of Oakley Debbs — an 11-year-old boy who loved Giants football and tragically passed away from his nut allergy,” Manning wrote on X on May 20. “Oakley loved his red sneakers, and now they’ve become a worldwide symbol for food allergy awareness.

Manning ended his post by sharing the hashtag to spread his advocacy, “Join me in posting a photo or video on social media to help spread awareness about food allergies #internationalredsneakersday.”

Several fans shared photos of their red shoes in honor of Oakley.

Last year, Manning shared a similar video on Instagram as he continues to use his platform to spread awareness.

Manning is a proud ambassador for the non-profit organization.

The former Giants quarterback retired in January 2020 with his last game against the Miami Dolphins in December 2019. He won two Super Bowls in his career — Super Bowl XLII and Super Bowl XLVI — and was named the MVP following both wins. The Giants retired his No. 10 jersey in 2021.

He is now the co-host of ManningCast — an alternate Monday Night Football ESPN broadcast — with his brother Peyton Manning. Eli is also the minority investor and part-owner of the NJ/NY Gotham FC in the National Women’s Soccer League and hosts the YouTube series Eli At The Movies.
