Eintracht Frankfurt v Tottenham prediction

Spurs will be eager to rediscover their winning touch after Saturday’s 2-2 draw with 19th-placed Burnley extended their poor domestic run to six winless games in seven.

That result has intensified the pressure on head coach Thomas Frank, with Tottenham now sitting 14th in the Premier League after collecting just five points from their last eight matches.

European competition has offered a welcome contrast, however. The reigning Europa League holders have impressed on the continental stage and currently occupy fifth place in the Champions League standings, having amassed 14 points from seven games.

Victory in Frankfurt would secure a top eight finish, allowing Spurs to bypass the two-legged play-off round and book automatic qualification for the last 16.

Anything less than three points could prove costly, though, with up to eight teams sitting just one point behind them and battling for those coveted top eight spots.

Eintracht Frankfurt, by contrast, are already out of the competition, one of only four sides to have had their elimination confirmed with a match to spare after losing five of their seven European fixtures this season.

The German side are currently being led by caretaker manager Dennis Schmitt following the dismissal of Dino Toppmoller just over a week ago.

However, Schmitt has overseen defeats in both of his matches so far, meaning Frankfurt head into Wednesday’s contest with just one win from their last 11 games and three losses in their previous four.

That downturn in form has seen the Eagles slip to seventh in the Bundesliga, nine points adrift of the top four, while they have taken only a single point from their last seven Champions League outings – including a heavy defeat away to Qarabag in Azerbaijan last week.

The two clubs are no strangers to one another, having met in last season’s Europa League quarter-finals. After a 1–1 draw in north London, Spurs claimed a 1–0 victory in Frankfurt, a result that paved the way for their eventual triumph and ended a 17-year wait for silverware.

Tottenham’s strong form in Europe combined with the hosts’ dismal record in recent weeks makes the visitors comfortable favourites for Wednesday’s clash, though any away game in Europe will be tough for Spurs, I still envisage a 2-1 away win for them at the Waldstadion.

Eintracht Frankfurt v Tottenham betting tips

Spurs go marching on

Tottenham head into the final round of league phase matches sat in fifth place in the Champions League table and know a win against their already eliminated opponents would guarantee them safe passage into the last 16 without having to go through the play offs.

Eintracht Frankfurt have won just one of their last 11 matches, losing three of their last four, including two defeats, one of which came against Qarabag, in the current caretaker manager’s opening two matches.

Solanke on the scoresheet

Dominic Solanke completed his first 90 minutes of the season on Saturday and looks set to be involved from the off once again on Wednesday night, looking to find his form from last season that saw him finish as Tottenham’s leading scorer in Europe en route to Europa League glory.

The England international scored the only goal of the game at the Waldstadion when the two sides met in Germany last season, in the second leg of their Europa League quarter final.

The Spurs striker bagged his first goal of the season in last week’s 2-0 win over Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League.

Van de Venomous

Micky van de Ven has received more cards than any other player on either team in all competitions ahead of Wednesday’s clash in Germany, with no player having received more cards than the Tottenham defender in the Champions League this season.
