Teremoana stops Tupou – how it happened

Just 40 seconds into the contest, Teremoana snapped his opponent’s head back with a slick right hand that sent him stumbling to the ropes.

Teremoana sensed his opponent was hurt and followed up with several combinations to get the finish.

With Tupou firmly backed up on the ropes, Teremoana continued to utilise his jab, throwing monster shots to the body.

Another one-two had Tupou covering up and hanging on for dear life before the final blow came in an instant.

Teremoana measured up and caught Tupou with a thunderous uppercut that made his opponent’s eyes roll back in his head.

The Australian landed a weak right-hand follow-up shot, but Tupou was already knocked unconscious and almost went flying out of the ring as the bout came to its conclusion.

“That does not look good,” one of the commentators uttered as doctors rushed to Tupou’s aid.

Hearn: One of the scariest KOs I’ve ever seen

Teremoana’s promoter Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Boxing had a front row seat for the brutal knockout and was full of praise for his heavyweight prospect.

“That was one of the scariest knockouts I’ve ever seen,” he said.

“And if you can have that guy from Australia, this is going to be a huge star.

“Because he’s not just got the personality, he’s not just got the dance moves, he can really, really fight.

“He’s got power in both hands, he’s a giant of a man, and he’s got a smile that will light up the room as well.

“This guy’s got devastating power.”

Hearn said he’s looking at potentially putting Teremoana in Saudi Arabia for a future fight, but wants his man to headline another show in Australia first.

“[Teremoana] is a future world champion,” Hearn added.

In the main event, Nicolson defeated Turner via unanimous decision, with all three judges scoring the contest 100-89 in her favour.

Teremoana, meanwhile, said that it was one of the best punches he’s ever thrown, but had the utmost respect for his 43-year-old opponent for getting in the ring.

“It feels good to be performing here down in Melbourne,” he said.

“What an awesome crowd and awesome event.

“We’re starting a new wave of fighting down here in Australia, and to have the support of Matchroom over here is awesome…

“I believe I’m championship material, so I’m going to take it one step at a time until I get the world title.”

Teremoana, who is now 11-0, with all of his wins coming by KO, competed at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris before signing with Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing.
