Dodgers’ Dave Roberts drops ‘heroic’ take on Yoshinobu Yamamoto’s Game 7 appearance

It’s been a few months since the Los Angeles Dodgers won the World Series, defeating the Toronto Blue Jays in a grueling seven-game series. Much of this was thanks to the Yoshinobu Yamamoto Game 7 appearance, which sealed the deal. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts spoke to Bob Costas about how it felt to see Yamamoto want to enter Game 7, on the day after he started Game 6.

Roberts gushed about his star pitcher, calling his performance heroic and saying that it was unprecedented and he would find a way to get him into the game.

Yamamoto had thrown 96 pitches in Game 6. Then, he wanted to pitch Game 7. Yamamoto showed his value to the Dodgers, tossing six innings in Game 6 while allowing one run. Then, Yamamoto entered Game 7 in the ninth inning, with runners in scoring position and stranded them. This would give the Dodgers the jolt they needed

After pitching a perfect 10th, Yamamoto saw the Dodgers give him a 5-4 lead in the Top of the 11th. Then, he allowed a double to Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to start the 11th. Isaish Kiner-Falefa moved Guerrero to third on a sacrifice bunt. Addison Barger drew a walk, setting runners at the corners with one out. Yamamoto got Alejandro Kirk to ground into a double play to seal the title for the Dodgers.

Yamamoto had a performance that rocked the world and etched his name into the record books. While many love Shohei Ohtani, Yamamoto earned his spot in the hearts of Dodgers’ fans, as his World Series outings were one of the major reasons why they were able to survive the Blue Jays and win their second consecutive title.
