Devils keep Sheldon Keefe as head coach but announces multiple assistant changes

The New Jersey Devils are going to stick with Sheldon Keefe as their head coach following his second season with the franchise, according to Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic.

“Devils also confirm that Sheldon Keefe will be returning as HC. He has two years left on his contract. New GM Sunny Mehta had evaluated the HC position and has decided to bring Keefe back,” LeBrun shared via social media post on X, formerly Twitter, on Tuesday.

The news of Keefe remaining with the Devils comes on the heels of New Jersey letting go of goaltending coach Dave Rogalski and reassigning assistant coach Sergei Brylin.

“The Devils announced today Goaltending Coach Dave Rogalski has been relieved of his duties. Additionally, Assistant Coach Sergei Brylin will be taking on a new role within the organization,” the Devils posted on X.

The two spots left by Rogalski and Brylin will have to be filled up, but at least there will not be a new search for a head coach in New Jersey, with Keefe keeping his job.

The Devils welcomed a new man to run the front office when they hired Sunny Mehta to be their general manager. Mehta is a known analytics guy and won two Stanley Cup titles as an executive for the Florida Panthers, and he’ll now look to help New Jersey turn things around with the help of Keefe.

The Devils went 42-33-7 and made the playoffs in Keefe’s first season with the team in the 2024-25 campaign. In the 2025-26 season, New Jersey took a step back, going 42-37-3, while missing the boat to the postseason.
