Devastated Quinn Hughes reacts to Wild’s gut-wrenching collapse vs. Avalanche
The Minnesota Wild are headed home after a brutal Game 5 collapse against the Colorado Avalanche on Wednesday night. The Wild had a 3-0 lead at one point in this game. And it seemed as if this team was going to force a critical Game 6 back in Minnesota. Instead, Quinn Hughes and his teammates are preparing for the offseason.
“This one stings. Love the guys. Love the coaching staff. The whole organization. Yeah, I mean this one really stings. I just felt like we had a really good team. You get through these guys, you never know,” the Wild star said of this series loss, via The Athletic’s Michael Russo.
Anytime a team loses in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, it’s a crushing feeling. At the same time, Hughes has long acknowledged the Avalanche’s quality on the ice. And he did so once again following the loss in Game 5 on Wednesday.
“But if we had to lose, you want to lose to these guys. These guys are the best. Presidents’ Trophy. So, yeah, it stings right now just because I feel like we had a really great team,” Hughes said of the Avalanche.
Hughes joined the Wild during the season after a trade with the Vancouver Canucks. He will be eligible for a contract extension in about a month and a half. His future with Minnesota certainly is not set in stone.
The Wild have to figure out how to build upon this season. Additionally, both the front office and Hughes will need to discuss how they want to proceed with this current arrangement. Minnesota is one team that fans should keep a close eye on as the offseason officially approaches.
