Crystal Palace fans taunt Oliver Glasner with ‘sacked in the morning’ chants as Eagles boss seen berating player on pitch

Crystal Palace fans taunted Oliver Glasner with ‘sacked in the morning’ chants after a drab draw with minnows Zrinjski Mostar.

Eagles fans made the long journey to Bosnia-Herzegovina for the first leg of their Conference League play-off, with the Premier League club only managing a 1-1 draw.

Glasner was furious throughout as his side delivered a weak display

It marks a sour turning point in the Austrian’s relationship with the fans, given less than a year ago, he won the FA Cup.

But he has since announced he’s leaving Selhurst Park at the end of the season and called out the board publicly for a lack of support in the transfer window.

Glasner named a strong team with Ismaila Sarr, Adam Wharton, Jorgen Strand Larsen and Maxence Lacroix all involved.

But after Sarr’s opener, the hosts equalised as Wharton gave the ball away, and Karlo Abramovic slotted home.

From there, the Eagles were poor and their fans made it clear that they think Glasner’s time could be up, while sat in the stands.

The manager cut a very frustrated figure throughout and tore into Daniel Munoz on the pitch at the end of the contest.

Glasner could be seen speaking animatedly to the defender on a night to forget for Palace who have won just one of their last 15 matches in all competitions.

And afterwards, the former Eintracht Frankfurt manager bemoaned the mistakes his side made.

Speaking to TNT Sports, he said: “We just made two easy mistakes. You see all the opportunities, it wasn’t always the overload, but we can’t defend one-v-one.

“That is what I said before the game, we need to get our defence sorted.

“We see they are not in the best rhythm. We are always making changes. We need to be very self-critical today.

“We controlled the game, like against Burnley (3-2 defeat), but we gave away the momentum with easy mistakes.”

The amount of games and small squad are catching up with Palace

“It’s always difficult coming to places like this,” Palace goalkeeper Dean Henderson told TNT.

“Sometimes you get a bit agitated, you want to go and get the next goal, and obviously with the pitch today, no excuses but playing balls into the pockets when it’s bobbling, then they can break us, obviously.

“That was difficult tonight but we’ve got to learn from it, we’ve got to move on. It will be a different game next week, and we’ve just got to make sure we’re prepared for that.”

Palace snapped a 12-game winless streak across all competitions by beating Brighton away in the Premier League, then suffered an agonising 3-2 home defeat to Burnley, who bounced back from a two-goal deficit.

On paper, they look like the team most equipped to win the Conference League but their recent form on the pitch is not good.

“It’s not going to be easy,” added Henderson, reflecting on next Thursday’s task. “We can’t just turn up and expect to win three, four-nil, simple as that. We’ve got to learn from it.”

Turning sour

It feels as if this Glasner spell as Palace manager is starting to end badly.

Last season, he guided them to their first ever major trophy, before claiming the Community Shield in August, setting up what should have been an excellent season.

They are playing in Europe for the first time in their history as well, but despite all of that, it was clear that the squad is too small to compete on multiple fronts.

That has led to Glasner having to use the same players over and over again, while Marc Guehi’s departure to Manchester City saw Glasner speak out against the board.

It looked at that point, he would be sacked, but an agreement was reached for him to remain until the end of his contract.

But with these chants now aimed at him, it is starting to get messy.
