Colts rumors: Insider walks back Daniel Jones contract agreement with ‘progress’ update
Daniel Jones has not yet signed a contract with any team this offseason. That needed to be made clear after NFL Insider Jordan Schultz reported he had finalized a new deal with the Indianapolis Colts. In a post walking back his initial claim, Schultz sparks rumors claiming that Jones and Indy are potentially working on a deal.
In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, Schultz claims that Jones and the Colts are making progress on a long-term contract. Although a deal has not come to fruition, it sounds like both parties are remaining in touch with one another, at the very least.
“Update: The Colts and QB Daniel Jones have made progress on a long-term deal, but have not finalized anything as of right now, per sources. Both sides remain in contact.”
Jones, who turns 29 in May, looked like a franchise quarterback for the Colts last season after having a rather bump career in the league. Unfortunately, injuries prevented him from finishing the campaign, as the franchise ended up signing Philip Rivers out of retirement to play the final stretch of the regular season.
Daniel Jones played in 13 games, which is the most he has played in a single season since 2022, when he played 16 games with the New York Giants. He finished the 2025-26 season with 3,101 passing yards and 24 total touchdowns (19 passing, 5 rushing) while completing 68.0% of his pass attempts (career-high).
The former first-round pick will likely remain in the rumor mill until he eventually signs a new deal. Daniel Jones has been linked to the Colts throughout the offseason, though, as it is believed the organization wants him to remain as the starting quarterback for the long haul.
