Chelsea Gray sets new Aces record with huge game vs. Fire

Las Vegas Aces guard Chelsea Gray might want to hit the slot machines when they return home.

Because she is hot.

Gray went off for a career-high 29 points in their win against the Portland Fire, 105-89, at Moda Center on Thursday. She went 9-of-13 from three-point distance and added five rebounds and three assists.

The Aces claimed their fifth straight win and improved to 9-3.

According to ESPN’s Kendra Andrews, Gray set a team record for most three-pointers in a game. The 33-year-old guard also tied the league record, joining Las Vegas teammate Jewell Loyd, Atlanta Dream guard Rhyne Howard, Indiana Fever guard Kelsey Mitchell, and Dallas Wings guard Arike Ogunbowale.

With Gray finding her touch, Las Vegas shot 14-of-28 from beyond the arc.

She is shooting 42.2% from long range this season, the second-highest of her career. She is averaging 12.5 points, 4.1 rebounds, and a team-high 6.8 assists.

A’ja Wilson also had a notable evening against the Fire, finishing with 32 points, five rebounds, four assists, and two blocks. She leaped past WNBA legends Seimone Augustus and Lauren Jackson and Connecticut Sun center Brittney Griner for 16th place in the all-time scoring list and former All-Star Sancho Lyttle for 14th place in the all-time rebounding list.

The Aces outscored the Fire, 27-17, in the fourth quarter to secure the win. The defending champions decimated Portland in the rebounding department, 42-19.

Jackie Young added 18 points, eight rebounds, and 10 assists.

The Aces will return to action on Saturday as they host the Minnesota Lynx, who are on an eight-game winning streak.
