Canucks name Richard Seeley as assistant general manager

Vancouver Canucks General Manager Ryan Johnson announced Thursday evening that the organization has named Richard Seeley as general manager of the Abbotsford Canucks and assistant general manager of Vancouver.

Johnson previously served as the AHL club’s lead from 2017 to 2026 before being promoted to Canucks general manager on May 14, 2026. Seeley has now been appointed to take over the Abbotsford role while also joining Johnson’s front office.

Seeley spent the past eight seasons as General Manager of the Ontario Reign in the AHL. In the 2025-26 season, the Reign finished with a franchise-best 47-20-3-2 record and 99 points, earning the Pacific Division regular-season title. That campaign set multiple franchise benchmarks, including 47 wins, a .688 winning percentage, 26 home wins, and an 11-game point streak.

Before his tenure in Ontario, Seeley spent three seasons as head coach and Director of Hockey Operations for the ECHL’s Manchester Monarchs. He compiled a 117-73-26 record, and the team went 3-3 in the postseason, including a run to the Eastern Conference Finals in 2017.

Seeley was originally selected by the Los Angeles Kings in the sixth round of the 1997 NHL Entry Draft. He played 340 games in the Kings system and served as captain of the AHL’s Manchester Monarchs during the 2003-04 and 2005-06 seasons. The 47-year-old British Columbia native has spent much of his professional career within the Kings organization.

Abbotsford’s recent performance context includes a season where the club missed the playoffs after winning the Calder Cup in 2025. The team finished last in the AHL with 173 goals scored.
