Canadiens’ Martin St. Louis drops ‘no panic’ truth bomb after heartwrenching Game 6 loss

The Montreal Canadiens were one goal away from taking out the Tampa Bay Lightning and winning a Stanley Cup Playoff round for the first time in five years — but they were unable to get one by Andrei Vasilevskiy in a 1-0 overtime loss in Game 6 at the Bell Centre on Friday night.

Despite directing 30 shots on goal, the Habs could not buy one behind support from a raucous crowd at the Bell Centre. Head coach Martin St. Louis is not panicking as the team travels to Tampa for Game 7 on Sunday.

“We have to pick ourselves up and do that again,” St. Louis told reporters, per NHL.com’s Sean Farrell. “We played an excellent game. We were good. There’s no panic; we just had everyone going tonight. It’s unfortunate you don’t get the result, but what a hockey game.”

It was probably one of the most exciting 1-0 hockey games you’ll see, as there were a ton of chances at both ends. Vasilevskiy was perfect, and so was Jakub Dobes until Gage Goncalves pounced on a loose puck in the crease midway through the extra frame. He ended up making 32 stops.

“We were the better team for pretty much most of that game, we just didn’t score,” said captain Nick Suzuki, who has five assists in six games. “I thought Vasilevskiy kind of won them that game. I thought everyone played a great game, we just didn’t get the result, and we’re ready to go down to Tampa and win Game 7.”

This series has turned into one of the closest in Stanley Cup Playoff history. All six games have been decided by a single goal, and four of them have gone to overtime.

It’s only fitting that hockey fans are treated to a Game 7, as neither the Canadiens or the Lightning have any fashions on going home in Round 1.

Sunday evening in Tampa Bay promises to be electric, and absolutely no one would be surprised if the game was decided by one goal once again. Puck drops just past 6:00 p.m. ET at Benchmark International Arena.
