Broncos OC Davis Webb sees Stefon Diggs-like impact in Jaylen Waddle’s future

The Denver Broncos have a new wide receiver on the roster after trading for Jaylen Waddle from the Miami Dolphins this offseason. With Davis Webb stepping in as offensive coordinator, the new playcaller has high hopes for Waddle’s first year in Denver.

While talking with media members on Thursday, Webb believes the 27-year-old wideout can make an immediate impact on the Broncos offense much like Stefon Diggs did with the Buffalo Bills when he originally joined the club, entering Josh Allen’s third season in the NFL, according to Nick Kosmider of The Athletic. If that’s the case, Waddle could be in for a huge 2026-27 season.

“He’s good,” Webb said with a smile about Waddle. “He’s a really good player. There’s some similarities when I was with Josh Allen going into Year 3. Similar to Bo going into Year 3. We traded for Stefon Diggs. And that was a good year. That was a good two-year run… Just seeing the growth from both players [at] that time. There is some similarities of what’s starting to happen here.”

Diggs’ first season with the Bills was the best of his entire career so far. He finished the 2020-21 campaign with career highs in receptions (127) and yards (1,535), which he also led the NFL in those categories. Stefon Diggs also hauled in eight touchdowns that year in Buffalo.

As for Jaylen Waddle, the five-year veteran hopes to bounce back in a major way with the Broncos. He hasn’t surpassed the 1,000-yard mark in the past two seasons, but that could all change in Denver. Waddle ended last season with 64 receptions, 910 yards, and six touchdowns.
