Braves’ Chris Sale gives Payton Tolle his flowers after 10-2 win vs. Red Sox
The Atlanta Braves finished off a three-game series at Fenway Park with a 10-2 victory over the struggling Boston Red Sox. The start of the game saw the two teams engaged in a sharp pitching duel between Chris Sale of the Braves and youngster Payton Tolle of the Red Sox.
The game was scoreless through the first three innings with Sale wriggling out of trouble several times and Tolle keeping the Braves from getting on the scoreboard with his overpowering fastball. Both teams scored two runs in the fourth inning and when the Braves put runners on with two outs in the fifth inning, Tolle came out of the game.
The Braves would dominate against the Red Sox bullpen with 5 runs in the sixth inning and they cruised to the victory. However, Sale was impressed with Tolle’s effort and he believes the young lefthander will have a solid future in the big leagues.
“I told him I like watching him pitch,” Sale said, per Ian Browne of MLB.com. “He pitches with a with an intensity. He’s got really good stuff, He’s going to be good for a long time.”
Ronald Acuna of the Braves broke the game open with the fourth grand slam of his career in the sixth inning. Ozzie Albies and Michael Harris also homered for the Braves.
Sale pitched 5.0 innings for the Braves and he allowed 6 hits and 2 earned runs while striking out 8 batters. He was credited with the victory and improved his record to 8-3. Tolle pitched 4.2 innings for the Red Sox and he gave up 5 hits and 2 earned runs while striking out 7.
