Bournemouth vs Crystal Palace predictions

Andoni Iraola has confirmed he will be leaving Bournemouth at the end of the season, and Crystal Palace are among the clubs interested in securing his services.

On the face of it, such a move sounds unlikely. Palace look set to finish below Bournemouth in the Premier League this term. They are a bigger club than the Cherries, but are not among the elite of the elite of English football.

Palace hope that their London location appeals to Iraola. But to have any chance of luring the in-demand Spaniard, they need to qualify for Europe.

Oliver Glasner’s side (the Austrian announced in January that he would depart Selhurst Park in the summer) can still secure a spot in continental competition via the Premier League, although their chances of doing so are slim.

A top-nine finish could be enough, and Palace are five points adrift with a game in hand on the teams around them – but Manchester City will be their opponents in that rearranged fixture.

An easier route is available via the Conference League, whose winners will earn a place in the Europa League. Palace lead Shakhtar Donetsk 3-1 ahead of the second leg of their semi-final.

Bournemouth hope to be in Europe next season too. They sit seventh in the standings at present and have gone 15 games without defeat in all competitions.

There is even a possibility that Bournemouth could sneak into the Champions League. If Aston Villa were to finish fifth and win the Europa League, sixth place would be granted a seat at Europe’s top table.

Bournemouth are only a point behind the current occupiers of that position, Brighton & Hove Albion. Game on, potentially.

Bournemouth vs Crystal Palace betting tips

Two European hopefuls go head-to-head as Bournemouth do battle with Crystal Palace.

Home team to triumph

Bournemouth have not lost any of their last 14 Premier League matches. Their last defeat came back on January 3, when Arsenal came out on top at the Vitality Stadium.

Although Iraola is on his way out, he will be determined to end the season strongly. Marco Rose, who has already been announced as his replacement, will be hoping for the same as Bournemouth seek a European spot.

Crystal Palace’s priority is the Conference League and Glasner will shuffle his pack for this trip to the south coast. That makes Bournemouth favourites.

It is also worth noting that there have been over 2.5 goals in five of Palace’s last six matches.

Stalemate in first half

Crystal Palace will undoubtedly have one eye on the second leg against Shakhtar Donetsk, but they could still prove a tough nut for Bournemouth to crack.

Palace performed well against Liverpool last time out, creating enough chances to have avoided defeat on another day.

The Eagles can be stubborn on the road, and they tend to start away games well. Indeed, only Manchester City and Arsenal have a better first-half record on their travels than Palace.

With that in mind, Bournemouth may have to settle for being level rather than ahead at the interval.

Watch out for Evanilson

With only six goals to his name so far this season, Evanilson is running out of time to reach double figures.

The Brazilian has perhaps underperformed in front of goal, despite impressing with his link-up play as Bournemouth’s first-choice centre-forward.

Eli Junior Kroupi has emerged as the team’s principal goal threat, but Iraola has found a way to fit the Frenchman and Evanilson into the same XI of late.

At odds better than evens, it is worth a punt on the former Porto man striking against Crystal Palace.
