Ben Johnson opens up on ‘fun part’ of Bears’ stacked offense

With the Chicago Bears preparing for the 2026 season, all eyes are on the offense to take another step, led by head coach Ben Johnson and quarterback Caleb Williams. As the Bears look to level up for the 2026 season, Johnson would give insight into his excitement for the offense coming into the upcoming year.

Speaking to the media on Tuesday, he spoke on the challenge of finding ways to give the ball to playmakers like wide receivers Luther Burden and Rome Odunze, while also mentioning tight ends Colston Loveland and Cole Kmet.

“I love the challenge of looking at Luther Burden and how do we get him the ball and maximize what he does best, along with Rome (Odunze), along with Colston (Loveland) and Cole (Kmet),” Johnson said, via NFL.com. “We have this whole slew of weapons that we’re looking to maximize. I think that’s the fun part. The plays don’t matter so much to me. It’s more so, how do we get these guys the ball with a little bit of space to do what they do so well?”

After a successful first season, Johnson would also say that he has changed “fairly significantly when it comes to being a play-caller.

“I’d like to think I’m better in situations than I’ve been in the past,” Johnson told reporters. “You continue to grow, and you learn from your own mistakes or things that have gone well for you. You look to tailor it to the guys that are available, and we have different guys this year than we had last year, and certainly anywhere else I’ve been. The challenge is making sure that we’re all coordinated, on the same page, and putting them all in a spot to succeed.”

At any rate, Johnson, Williams, the offense, and the rest of the team look to further improve after finishing with an 11-6 record, winning the NFC North, and beating the Green Bay Packers in a wild-card playoff game. The team opens the season on Sept. 13 against the Carolina Panthers.
