Barcelona vs Eintracht Frankfurt predictions and betting tips – Champions League returns to Camp Nou

Champions League football returns to the Camp Nou this week when Barcelona host Eintracht Frankfurt on Matchday 6.

Barça have picked up just one point from their last two Champions League outings and are outside the top eight. They need to start winning now if they are to force their way into the automatic qualifying places for the Round of 16.

Barcelona vs Frankfurt prediction

After suffering a chastening 3-0 defeat at Chelsea in their previous outing, Barcelona will look to get their Champions League campaign back on track when they host struggling Eintracht Frankfurt.

The Catalans have picked up just seven points from five matches this season. They started with a 2-1 win away at Newcastle on Matchday 1. That was followed by a disappointing 2-1 home defeat to PSG, the current champions of Europe.

Normal service seemed to be resumed when Barça thrashed Olympiacos 6-1 on Matchday 3. However, Hansi Flick’s team couldn’t build on the win, as they had to come from behind three times to salvage a 3-3 draw away to Club Brugge.

Worse was to follow on Matchday 5. The Catalans travelled to London to face Chelsea and were humbled, barely laying on a glove on the Premier League club as they crashed to a 3-0 defeat.

Barça warmed up for the visit of Frankfurt with a stunning 5-3 win away to Betis on Saturday.

The Catalans went 1-0 behind after just six minutes. However, they then hit back with five unanswered goals from Ferran Torres (3), Roony Bardghji and Lamine Yamal, to lead 5-1 after an hour.

In typical Barça fashion they conceded a couple of late goals. But it made little difference other than adding a bit of respectability to the scoreline for Betis.

Frankfurt’s preparations couldn’t have been much worse. The Eagles crashed to a 6-0 defeat away to RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga on Saturday. The defeat ended a six-match domestic unbeaten run.

Things haven’t been good in Europe either. Dino Toppmöller’s team have picked up just four points from five matches.

Furthermore, the Germans have conceded a whopping 14 goals. Only bottom-of-the-table Ajax have let in more (16).

The Eagles started their campaign with a magnificent 5-1 home win over Galatasaray. That was followed by a 5-1 defeat away at Atletico and a 5-1 home defeat to Liverpool.

After conceding ten goals in two games, Toppmöller’s team adopted a more cautious approach and played out a 0-0 draw away at Napoli on Matchday 4. However, it was short lived respite as the Eagles then crashed to a 3-0 defeat at home to Atalanta on Matchday 5.

They need to turn the situation around quickly or a place in the playoffs will be out of reach for the Germans.

Barcelona vs Frankfurt betting tips

Barça’s all out attack is up against Frankfurt’s leaky defence in a party atmosphere as Champions League football returns to the Camp Nou. What could possibly go wrong for the Germans?  Our Barcelona vs Frankfurt tips follow:

Barça to win and concede

Barcelona are just 1/7 to win in the 90 minutes betting market. There is no value backing the Catalans at those odds.

The statistics show us that Hansi Flick’s team have conceded in all five of their Champions League matches this season.

They also shipped three goals against Betis last Saturday, and have kept just one clean sheet in their last 11 La Liga matches.

Frankfurt had scored in six consecutive Bundesliga matches up until Saturday’s 6-0 humbling at Leipzig.

The Germans have also scored in three of their five Champions League outings, although they have failed to find the net in their most recent two.

We still feel they are worth backing to score against a Barcelona side who give up way too many chances.

Leaky Frankfurt defence in for a long night

Barcelona have scored 26 goals in eight La Liga home matches this season. They’ve averaged 3.25 goals per game and have covered over 2.5 goals six times.

They have scored seven in their two Champions League home appearances.

Over 2.5 home goals was covered once in the 6-1 win over Olympiacos. I think we can forgive them only finding the net once when they faced PSG, the current European champions.

Eintracht Frankfurt conceded six on the road in the Bundesliga last weekend. They’ve kept no clean sheets in seven domestic matches away from home, conceding three or more in four of them.

The Germans have also conceded three or more in three of their five Champions League outings. They have also only kept one clean sheet.

Goals look likely for Barça. Over 3.5 goals is appealing at 5/4. However, we are playing safe and sticking with the hosts to score a minimum of three.

Yamal to assist is the value option

With plenty of home goals expected and players all over the pitch capable of scoring for Barça, finding a good value goalscorer bet isn’t easy.

Lamine Yamal is just 2/7 to score or assist. While both Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha are 3/10 in the same market.

Lamine Yamal looks the most likely to be involved in a goal. He has eight assists and six goals in La Liga. In the Champions League, the teenager has scored two and provided one assist.

With Yamal assisting more goals than he scores, the better value wager is to back him to assist for the improved odds.
