Awkward moment Joao Pedro’s family watch Brazil squad announcement

Footage has emerged of Joao Pedro’s family watching Brazil’s World Cup squad announcement and it’s as brutal as you’d imagine.

The Chelsea striker was the most notable snub from Carlo Ancelotti’s squad for the tournament, with a 34-year-old Neymar picked ahead of him.

Despite scoring 23 goals in all competitions for the Blues this term following his arrival from Brighton, Ancelotti could not find space to include Pedro.

“Of course, we are sad for Joao Pedro,” Ancelotti told reporters following the squad announcement.

“For the season he had in Europe, he probably deserved to be on this list, but unfortunately, with all possible awareness and respect, we chose another player.”

Pedro clan’s instant reaction to brutal snub

Given Pedro’s impressive form in front of goal this season, his friends and family would have tuned in to Ancelotti’s squad announcement with high hopes.

The group were suitably dressed for the occasion, with a range of Fluminense, Chelsea, Brighton, Watford and Brazil shirts on display.

A number of Brazilian news outlets evidently felt similar, as they were allowed into a home to capture the reaction of Pedro’s nearest and dearest.

Instead, they were left waiting for a name that was never called.

The frustration at the end of Ancelotti’s squad announcement was evident, as one child banged a table while a man threw his hands up in frustration.

Although Pedro may have reacted in a similar fashion behind closed doors in London, he did his best to hide his deep frustration at not being picked via a post on social media.

“I tried to give my best at all times,” Pedro wrote on Instagram.

“Joys and frustrations are part of football. From now on, I wish good luck to everyone who is there and I will be just another fan cheering for them to bring the sixth title home.”

No Blues here

Chelsea did their best to soften the blow for Pedro as they announced the Brazilian won their men’s Player of the Season award less than 24 hours after Ancelotti named his squad.

The Blues revealed Pedro received over 60 per cent of votes cast, with Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo second and third in the voting respectively.

With no World Cup on the horizon, Pedro now has a pre-season under new Blues boss Xabi Alonso to look forward to.

Alonso was confirmed as Chelsea manager on Sunday, with the Spaniard handed a four-year contract.
