Avalanche will have fully healthy roster for training camp, says Joe Sakic
It was not the ending they wanted as the Colorado Avalanche fell to the Vegas Golden Knights in the Western Conference Finals. Significantly, injuries hurt them. Avalanche president of operations Joe Sakic revealed that the team will have a fully healthy roster when training camp rolls around, according to Avalanche beat writer Bailey Curtis.
“Joe Sakic says everyone who was injured at the end of the Avs postseason run is expected to be healthy and ready to go for training camp,” Curtis wrote on X.
Nathan MacKinnon will be the focal point, as he sustained an injury during the Western Conference Finals. However, he, too, will likely be ready to go, especially after a disappointing end. There will be discussions about which players the Avalanche will add to try to improve the team. However, this is a team that still finished with the best record in hockey.
Sakic has created a contender that can still go all the way next season. Now, it’s all about health. MacKinnon, along with Cale Makar, Martin Necas, Gabriel Landeskog, and many other key players, will be back. Additionally, coach Jared Bednar will also return and hopes to lead the Avs back to the Western Conference Finals.
The Avalanche will retain much of the same roster they had this season. Notably, much of their salary cap could go to defense, as they have four defensemen currently scheduled to leave via free agency. But the core will remain, and the Avalanche will head into training camp with the same goal of winning their second Stanley Cup in the last decade.
