Athletics’ Nick Kurtz ties Ted Williams’ unreal streak in 1941
Nick Kurtz enjoyed a huge rookie season with the Athletics in 2025. He hit .290/.383/.619 across 117 games played en route to winning the American League Rookie of the Year. While he has not swung the bat as well to begin the ’26 campaign, Kurtz has been able to get on base at a high level. The Athletics earned a 6-3 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Thursday. During the game, Kurtz drew another walk — his 33rd in 30 games this season.
He also joined Ted Williams in MLB history on Thursday, according to Sarah Langs. Kurtz has now walked in 19 consecutive games, a mark that tied Williams for third all-time. The Athletics first baseman is approaching Barry Bonds for second place all-time, and he is only a few games behind Roy Cullenbine’s record.
Nick Kurtz has drawn a walk in 19 consecutive games
Most consecutive games with a walk (BB first tracked for indiv batters in 1910 in NL, 1913 AL):
1947 Roy Cullenbine: 22
2002-03 Barry Bonds: 20
2026 Nick Kurtz: 19 *active
1941 Ted Williams: 19— Sarah Langs (@SlangsOnSports) April 30, 2026
Overall, he now holds a slash line of .236/.417/.425 in 2026. One has to imagine he will increase his batting average sooner rather than later, but the A’s certainly will not complain about his .417 OBP.
With the win, the ball club improved to 17-14 this season. They are 1.5 games ahead of the second place Texas Rangers in the American League West. The Athletics are playing well and they look like a team that could realistically compete throughout the ’26 campaign.
Kurtz is playing a crucial role in the team’s success. He will look to continue his streak on Friday at home against the Cleveland Guardians.
Friday’s contest will represent the first matchup of a three-game series against Cleveland. First pitch is scheduled for 9:40 PM EST.
