The New York Yankees are searching for answers after yet another disappointing exit from the Major League Baseball Playoffs. New York is now trying to figure out what players the team will be able to keep moving forward. A new report from The Athletic lists several Yankees as likely to leave in free agency this offseason.
One of them is infielder Jazz Chisholm Jr.
“There should be concerns about signing Chisholm to a long-term deal because he has some of the worst bat-to-ball skills in MLB, consistently ranking poorly in in-zone contact rates and swing-and-miss metrics. Those skills tend to decline as players age,” The Athletic's Chris Kirschner wrote.
During the 2026 regular season, Chisholm hit at a .231 batting average. He finished the regular season with 19 home runs and 55 RBIs. Like many other Yankees players, he also battled injuries.

Chisholm had given his endorsement to signing a new deal with New York.
“I love it as a Yankee,” Chisholm said recently. “I grew up as a Yankee fan. Being from the Bahamas, watching Derek Jeter and those guys every day (was great). I loved my time as a Yankee. I had great years with the Yankees. I had an All-Star year. I had a Silver Slugger year. … I mean, who doesn’t want to stay with a team that you’ve had such great times with and great years with?

New York finished the campaign in second place in the American League East. The Yankees then defeated the Boston Red Sox in an AL Wild Card series, before losing to the Tampa Bay Rays in the ALDS.
Other free agents predicted to leave the Yankees in free agency include Trent Grisham and Paul Goldschmidt. Time will tell who returns for New York next season.
