The New York Yankees are currently gearing up for the Wild Card round of the playoffs, which is slated to get underway next week. The Yankees recently learned that they will be without superstar Aaron Judge for that round after he suffered an injury just days after returning from a ribcage ailment.

On Wednesday, the team got a positive injury update on veteran Giancarlo Stanton, who has been out of the lineup since late April due to a calf issue.

“Giancarlo Stanton took live ABs at Somerset today. Boone said he homered. Trent Grisham also took live ABs,” reported Yankees insider Chris Kirschner of The Athletic on X, formerly Twitter.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone also delivered a positive assessment of Grisham and Stanton.

“They’re knocking on the door,” he said.

Stanton only made it a few weeks into the season before suffering the calf injury, and has since been subject to a wide array of return reports and speculation, suffering a setback last month as he tried to make his way back into the lineup.

It remains to be seen if he would be able to get into any kind of rhythm if inserted right into the playoff mix, but the Yankees would still understandably rather have the 36 year-old in the lineup.

Meanwhile, New York has done a solid job of weathering the storm without Judge for most of this season, and they will need to continue to do so in their Wild Card matchup, most likely against the Boston Red Sox.

The first game of that Wild Card series is set for September 29 at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx.
