The New York Yankees had a short but sweet message for Cody Bellinger after the outfielder took home some well-deserved hardware. Bellinger won the 2026 American League Gold Glove Award in left field on Sunday, and the Yankees wasted no time celebrating the honor on social media.
“Good as Gold. Congratulations on your 2nd career Gold Glove, Belli!” the team wrote on X.
It is the first Gold Glove for Bellinger since 2019, when he won the award as a right fielder with the Los Angeles Dodgers during his National League MVP campaign. He beat out fellow finalists Chandler Simpson of the Tampa Bay Rays and Wyatt Langford of the Texas Rangers to bring home the honor this time around.
The award was hardly a surprise. Bellinger was arguably the best defensive left fielder in baseball this season, racking up 21 defensive runs saved, well ahead of Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Jackson Chourio, who had 13 and won the NL Gold Glove at the position. Bellinger also ranked above the 90th percentile in both Fielding Run Value and Outs Above Average.
Bellinger was the lone Yankee to take home a Gold Glove. Catcher Austin Wells and utility man Jose Caballero were also named finalists but came up short.
The honor caps a strong second season in pinstripes for Bellinger, who re-signed with New York in January on a five-year, $162.5 million contract. The deal includes opt-outs after the second and third seasons, as well as a full no-trade clause.
Article Continues BelowBellinger was productive at the plate as well, hitting .264 with 17 home runs, 73 RBIs, 12 stolen bases and a .768 OPS in 132 games. He also earned All-Star Game MVP honors in July after delivering a two-run single in the AL’s 4-0 win over the NL.
Unfortunately for Bellinger and the Yankees, the season did not end the way they had hoped. New York was swept by the Rays in the AL Division Series, dropping Game 3 by a 4-3 score at Yankee Stadium.
Still, the Gold Glove is a nice consolation for Bellinger, whose versatility and glove work have made him one of the most valuable pieces on the roster. With Aaron Judge and company looking to bounce back in 2027, the Yankees will be counting on Bellinger to keep delivering on both sides of the ball.
