The exhausting drama between Joey Porter Jr. and the Pittsburgh Steelers finally ended on Wednesday after the team sent him to the Dallas Cowboys for a sixth-round pick in 2027 and a second-round pick in 2028.

Porter and the Steelers failed to find a compromise on a contract extension, as the fourth-year cornerback was reportedly seeking an annual salary of around $30 million. He has not yet played this season due to a back injury.

The 26-year-old Porter will have a fresh start with the Cowboys, who addressed a need in their defensive unit. According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, Dallas is not expected to give Porter a contract extension—at least for now.

“The Cowboys, back from Brazil, assessed what was becoming a dire situation in the secondary, and knew Porter would help immediately,” wrote Fowler on X.

“Dallas is under the impression Porter will play out his rookie deal, and Porter plans to be on the field when ready, regardless of contract.”

A few days ago, Jerry Jones hinted at making a trade to bolster the roster. But he probably did not expect it would be for Porter, who grew disgruntled with the Steelers.

In 47 games for Pittsburgh, he collected 165 total tackles, including three for loss, one sack, three interceptions, and 14 passes defended. The Steelers drafted him with the No. 32 pick in 2023.

Following the trade, Porter posted a message on his Instagram Story: “Here I come, Dallas.”

ESPN's Adam Schefter said there is a “chance” Porter will make his debut on Sunday against the Houston Texans.
