The Golden State Warriors are scheduled to take on the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday, October 30. It will be the first time these two teams face off since the fiery season opener that ended in a 127-105 loss for Golden State. Yaxel Lendeborg will have another chance to go up against Luka Doncic, and ESPN's Stephen A. Smith is ready to grab the popcorn.
After watching the two go at it in the season opener and hearing what Lendeborg had to say about Doncic after their first meeting, Smith is all in on the fireworks show that could come to fruition on Friday night. The popular sports analyst is seemingly just as excited for the high-level basketball and trash talk that should be on display in the Warriors' home game against the Lakers.
“This ain't a question about the superstar status of a Luka Doncic, and what he means to the game of basketball,” Smith said. “He's Luka Doncic! But when you see a rookie that's a legit [6-foot-8, 6-foot-9], look at [Doncic] square in the face, competing against him, neutralizing him to some degree. And in the process of doing that, coming out postgame and saying, ‘Yo, I told him you suck. You can't score on me.'
“He's saying that Luka Doncic can't score! … This brother is talking to Luka and saying, ‘Yo, you wack. You need help from the officials.' I can't wait to see this game tonight,” Smith continued. “This is what I live for. This is what I like to see. And I'm talking about any form of competition that's mano y mano.”

Yaxel Lendeborg had some choice words after his first outing against the Lakers' 27-year-old phenom. The Warriors rookie even went as far as to claim he lost all respect for Doncic. The two were seeing jawing back and forth throughout the first contest of the 2026-27 campaign, and it certainly could lead to an exciting second matchup.
The Warriors and Lakers will tip off at 10 p.m. EST. It will take place in Golden State and will be the first NBA Cup match in the group stage of the season for both organizations.
