Los Angeles Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh is not well-liked in the City of Angels right now. The Chargers remained winless in five weeks after losing to the Denver Broncos, 23-17, at SoFi Stadium on Sunday.
They blew a seven-point lead in the fourth quarter and allowed the Broncos to go on a 13-0 surge to complete the come-from-behind victory.
Harbaugh took responsibility for their collapse, particularly their failure to pick up a first down on fourth-and-1 in the final period. From there, everything went downhill for the Chargers, who are 0-5 for the first time since 2003.
Still, the 62-year-old coach remained optimistic, as reported by The Athletic's Noah Furtado.
“The direction we're going offensively is improving, just like the defense is. That was one of the top defenses in the league, and our guys got the big drives, got the touchdown drives, put the ball in the end zone,” said Harbaugh.
“Justin (Herbert) did everything in his power, and our (running) backs, the effort and the plays were being made.”
Article Continues BelowBefore the season, Harbaugh, who is in his third year with the Chargers, was excited about their addition of Mike McDaniel as offensive coordinator. Harbaugh touted the instant connection between Herbert and McDaniel. It, however, has failed to translate on the field.
Amid the Chargers' awful start, fans have been clamoring for the front office to move on from Harbaugh despite steering the team to back-to-back appearances in the playoffs, although they lost in the wild-card round in both instances.
Los Angeles will try to break its losing skid in Week 6 against the Kansas City Chiefs.
