The Denver Broncos kept the Los Angeles Chargers winless, escaping with a come-from-behind win, 23-17, at SoFi Stadium.
The Broncos needed a key defensive stop and back-to-back field goals from kicker Wil Lutz, which capped off a 13-o run, to complete the hard-earned victory and improve to 3-2.
While it was not pretty, Denver showed resolve in crunch time. Quarterback Bo Nix went 16-of-27 for 123 yards and one touchdown, connecting with wide receiver Courtland Sutton on a five-yard toss in the fourth quarter to start their furious rally.
The 26-year-old Nix acknowledged that they are still a work in progress, as reported by DNVR Broncos' Zac Stevens.
“Right now, there's just a little subtle piece—offensive execution—that we're still working on. At times, it's there,” said the third-year quarterback.
Running back JK Dobbins had 18 carries for 68 yards and one touchdown.
The Broncos won at SoFi Stadium for the first time since 2023.
The Chargers, meanwhile, are mired in a 0-5 start for the first time since 2003.
Article Continues BelowDenver is amid a transition after coach Sean Payton took over play-calling duties from offensive coordinator Davis Webb. Payton echoed Nix's comment on continued improvement.
“There were some things that were good, and then, specifically, staying on the field and just converting four or five more third downs. You know, I've just got to be a little bit better too,” said the seasoned, as quoted by the Associated Press' Beth Harris.
The Broncos need to do it quickly, as they will face another tough challenge in Week 6 against the Seattle Seahawks.
