Milwaukee Brewers manager Pat Murphy had a humorous response when asked how he planned to help Jacob Misiorowski after the rookie pitcher struggled through a demanding second inning against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

“We have a paddle we keep in the back room. There, we just pat them. I think I struck him seven or eight times. But then, after that, he seemed to get the message,” Murphy joked after Milwaukee secured a 2-1 victory in Game 1 of the National League Championship Series on Sunday night.

Misiorowski needed 94 pitches to record 13 outs, allowing one run on five hits and three walks while striking out five. The Dodgers made him work through a 35-pitch second inning, scoring their only run on an Andy Pages RBI single that brought home Shohei Ohtani.

Misiorowski escaped further trouble by getting Kiké Hernández to ground into a double play. Murphy acknowledged that his starter did not have his best stuff, but he appreciated how the right-hander responded when the Dodgers threatened. Milwaukee turned to its bullpen in the fifth inning, and the relievers took care of the rest.

DL Hall entered with a runner aboard and induced a double play from Freddie Freeman. Abner Uribe, Aaron Ashby and closer Trevor Megill followed with scoreless work to preserve the one-run lead. Milwaukee's bullpen recorded the final 14 outs without allowing a run.

The Brewers' offense also delivered when it mattered. Brice Turang opened the fourth inning with a home run off Tarik Skubal to tie the game. In the fifth, Garrett Mitchell walked and advanced on Cooper Pratt's sacrifice bunt before rookie Luis Lara singled home the go-ahead run.

The victory ended Milwaukee's seven-game postseason losing streak against Los Angeles, which included a sweep in the 2025 NLCS. The Dodgers stranded nine runners and went 1-for-6 with runners in scoring position.
