Ohio State football moved on from its Week 2 loss to the Texas Longhorns with a 59-3 waxing of Kent State that included a pedestrian (by his standards) 85-yard receiving game by Jeremiah Smith. Smith surpassed Michael Jenkins for most Buckeyes receiving yards all-time during the game but he's not content to rest on his laurels based on post-game comments.

Smith said he is “blessed” and that a lot of hard work went into breaking the record but there are two more names on his list to chase going forward.

“I have two more to get, Chris Olave's touchdowns record and Emeka Egbuka, receptions,” Smith said.

Olave played at Ohio State from 2018-2021 and is now with the NFL's New Orleans Saints. Egbuka played at Ohio State from 2021-2024 and is now with the NFL's Tampa Bay Buccaneers. All three Buckeyes receivers are part of a long line of players who have starred in Columbus, shattering records during their time with the program.

Ohio State outgained the Golden Flashes 527-134 total yards, including 382 passing yards from the Julian Sayin led passing game. Sayin completed 18-of-22 passes for 241 yards and two touchdowns while six different Buckeyes receivers caught two or more passes. Sayin expressed faith in his teammates after the Texas loss and looks strong going forward.

Week 4 will usher the Buckeyes back into Big Ten play as Bret Bielema, a former Big Ten champion coach with Wisconsin, will lead his upset-minded Illinois Fighting Illini into the Horseshoe to battle Sayin, Smith and coach Ryan Day's Buckeyes.

Ohio State is expected to be favored, but Smith and his teammates will have to outscore a Fighting Illini offense that has looked strong so far — a staunch challenge that could help Smith chase another record.
