San Antonio Spurs guard Dylan Harper is confident in his team and their championship aspirations this upcoming season. After losing the NBA Finals to the New York Knicks, a breakout season from Harper goes a long way for the Spurs' title chances. However, for Dylan, it's a collective effort.
After Spurs head coach Mitch Johnson announced plans to start a three-guard lineup, featuring De'Aaron Fox, Stephon Castle, and Harper, Dylan addressed how this will help improve the Spurs' chances of winning it all in 2027.
“We're going to be really hard to guard,” Harper said. “When me and Steph get downhill, Fox has the same ability. I think all three of us can be hard to guard, and there's going to be a whole lot of mismatches on the floor. Playing with each other, we're all unselfish, and we all understand where we're going to get our shots from. And we understand what we all have to do to win. So, it's going to be great.”
Johnson wasn't able to employ his three-guard starting lineup in the Spurs' preseason opener against the Atlanta Hawks on Thursday, due to Fox, dealing with soreness. The Spurs lost to the Hawks, 123-116.
Dylan Harper's 16 points led six Spurs players in double figures. Castle finished with 14 points, as did David Jones Garcia, who led the bench, while San Antonio's starters sat for the second half.
Spurs' Dylan Harper entering 2026-27 with the utmost confidence
Spurs guard Dylan Harper is on a mission to be an NBA great. When Haper was asked about his career ceiling potentially reaching the likes of a Michael Jordan or a Kobe Bryant, he didn't hesitate in setting the bar as high as the forementioned Hall of Fame guards.
“Feel like everything you named, plus a lot of championships,” Harper answered. “Definitely. If you don't have that belief in yourself, you don't carry that confidence in yourself; no one else is going to believe you. I feel like the dreams and aspirations I have are far-fetched, but I know the work I put in.”
