It is no secret that Draymond Green did his very best to convince LeBron James to choose the Golden State Warriors after his decision to leave the Los Angeles Lakers. However, the 41-year-old veteran eventually chose the Philadelphia 76ers and will now be playing alongside the likes of Joel Embiid and Jaylen Brown, over Stephen Curry and Green himself.

However, why did Draymond’s sales pitch fail? The Warriors veteran revealed exactly why he believes James chose Philadelphia over the Warriors during his interview with Andscape, despite claiming that Golden State was the ‘right decision.’

“He just couldn’t get over the past, which is, ‘I battled these guys over and over again,” he said. “What is that now going to look like for me if I come there? What type of beating am I going to take if I come there?’ And ultimately that’s why it didn’t happen. … I also think that’s why it took so long to make the decision, because I know this, [Golden State] was the right decision. He just couldn’t land on it.”

Green revealed multiple reasons why he believes the Warriors were the better team for LeBron at this stage of his career. He claimed that it would have been ‘cool’ for LeBron to join the one superstar who alongside him has pretty much ‘carried the NBA for the better part of the last 15 years.’

Draymond believes that while the league has moved on to younger guys such as Shai-Gilgeous Alexander, it would have been cool for the two to challenge the newer stars. He also brought up golf and the ‘business side of things,’ claiming that LeBron would not only have loved the golf in San Francisco, he would also have had the opportunity to tap into a new business market.

However, most of all, Draymond believes that it was about the kind of teammates James would have had at Golden State.

“Teammates that when you go to dinner, you want to go to dinner and sit with. As you get older in this league, that becomes a weird thing. We’ll have that. This will be the greatest show on Earth, by the way. Stephen and LeBron together?”

Needless to say, the boat has now sailed, and Green clearly believes that LeBron’s reluctance to join the Warriors came as a result of the history he has shared against the organization.
