Cam Schlittler wasn't happy with his performance on the mound after the New York Yankees' 5-3 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks on Saturday night.

Schlittler is going through the second season of his career in the majors with the Yankees. He has quickly broken out as one of the best young pitchers, helping New York be firm in the playoff picture this year.

Schlittler started on the mound as he lasted six innings, striking out six batters while conceding three hits and one earned run. New York lost on Pavin Smith’s pinch-hit, two-run homer in the ninth inning, resulting in Arizona's victory. He blamed himself for those mistakes after the game.

“I mean, I wouldn’t say I really gave them a chance,’’ Schlittler said. “That one’s kind of on me, so I’ll take the blame for that. Made an error there, let up two runs.”

“I mean, there’s still a chance,’’ Schlittler said, “but we got to play our (butts) off a little bit.’

Cam Schlittler and the Yankees have preparation for the postseason. These last games of the regular season will decide their place in the AL bracket, needing every win they can get.

The game was scoreless throughout the first four innings, seeing both teams finally get on the board in the fifth frame. However, Arizona dealt more blows as New York was unable to muster up more big plays to rally back against the hosts.

New York fell to an 89-65 record on the season, sitting at second place in the AL East Division standings. They are above the Boston Red Sox and the Toronto Blue Jays while trailing the Tampa Bay Rays.

The Yankees will look to bounce back in their series finale against the Diamondbacks. That contest commences on Sept. 20 at 4:10 p.m. ET.
