The Philadelphia 76ers possess remarkable talent with LeBron James being part of the roster. It resulted in NBA insider Dave McMenamin providing his insight into the star's approach with his new team.

Philadelphia has sheer determination to make a championship run, pulling off major additions to the roster. They landed Jaylen Brown from the Boston Celtics in exchange for Paul George and draft compensation. To top off the summer, they signed James to bolster their chances of being firm title contenders.

McMenamin appeared on ESPN to talk about James ahead of the 2026-27 season. He cited how the star went about training and getting along with teammates during his stints in Cleveland and Los Angeles.

“He said that normally he works out two days, then takes a day off, then works out another two days. He was feeling so good earlier this summer, he went three days straight. Told his trainer like, ‘No, I got this.' I'm showing up to the gym. He's like, ‘Don't you need the day off?' He's like, ‘I'm feeling good. Let's keep it rolling.' I think in the years past, when he went to a new franchise, you talk about Cleveland in 2014 and certainly L.A. in 2018, I covered him with those teams,” McMenamin said.

In Cleveland, the first open practice, he said, ‘Hey, David Blatt, I got this,' and he started running the players through drills himself. In L.A. in 2018, he lasted about a month with that team, and then he said to me, ‘Like maybe we should trade for Anthony Davis.' He was very much hands-on, was what I'm trying to say. Right here, I think what he intends to do is not necessarily take a back seat, but pour into the guys he named, and obviously the big fella: Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and Jaylen Brown too.”

What lies ahead for LeBron James, 76ers

LeBron James and the 76ers have high hopes of being in title contention. With expectations also being high, they must persevere through early challenges to achieve great success.

Philadelphia finished with a 45-37 record last season, securing the seventh seed in the Eastern Conference standings. They stunned the Boston Celtics in a 3-1 series comeback before losing in a four-game sweep to the New York Knicks in the East Semifinals.

The 76ers enjoyed an incredible offseason, adding James and Brown to the roster. They also bolstered their overall depth by signing key role players in the backcourt with Anfernee Simons and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, making the team a possibly fierce contender for the 2027 championship.

Philadelphia's preseason commences on Oct. 5 when they host the New York Knicks. The regular season starts on Oct. 20 at 7 p.m. ET when they face the Knicks on the road.
