No. 3 Notre Dame improved to 4-0 after a 49-10 win over Purdue at Ross-Ade Stadium on Saturday. With the victory, the Fighting Irish completed an undefeated September for the first time during Marcus Freeman's tenure as head coach.

Notre Dame also extended its winning streak to 14 games dating back to last season, with every victory during that run coming by double digits. The Irish will enter October without a loss for the first time since 2021.

Notre Dame controlled the game after the Boilermakers' early fake-punt attempt was stopped one yard short of a first down near midfield. Four plays later, CJ Carr connected with Micah Gilbert for a touchdown, and the Fighting Irish continued to build their advantage. A 22-yard scoring run by Aneyas Williams and Carr's one-yard touchdown run helped Notre Dame stretch its lead to 21-0 early in the second quarter.

The defense then added another touchdown. Bryce Young recorded a strip sack of Purdue quarterback Ryan Browne, and Drayk Bowen recovered the fumble and returned it 15 yards for six points. Carr later found Nolan James Jr. for a three-yard touchdown, sending the Irish into halftime with a 35-0 advantage.

Notre Dame's defense held the Boilermakers scoreless through the first half while allowing only 12 rushing yards and less than 100 yards during the opening 30 minutes. The Fighting Irish recorded four sacks in the first half, matching their highest first-half mark under Freeman. Purdue ultimately finished with 218 yards and did not reach the end zone until six seconds remained in regulation.

Carr completed 14 of 22 passes for 237 yards and three touchdowns while adding a rushing score. He also threw an interception, his first since last November against Pittsburgh and Notre Dame's first turnover of the season. Carr's final touchdown pass went to Cooper Flanagan for a two-yard score in the second half.

Williams led the Irish's rushing attack with 80 yards on 14 carries, including the team's first run of at least 20 yards this season. Gilbert finished with two receptions for 83 yards and a touchdown.

The victory also kept the Shillelagh Trophy with Notre Dame and extended the Fighting Irish's winning streak over the Boilermakers to 11 games. Notre Dame now leads the all-time series 62-26-2.

The Irish will travel to Chapel Hill next weekend to face North Carolina.
