The Los Angeles Rams suffered another crushing loss early in the 2026 season. LA could not put away Denver, surrendering 30 points in the second half to lose 30-26 in Week 3. One Rams player was brutally honest about his responsibility for one play that helped lose the game.
Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford did not hold back when talking about his brutal pick-six during the fourth quarter.
“We’ve got to be more efficient with some of the stuff we’re doing throwing the football. Obviously, I’ve got to be better, and I will be,” Stafford said during his postgame press conference.
LA was completely awful during the second half, but Stafford's interception was one of their worst plays. Stafford actually tossed two interceptions to Talanoa Hufanga during the fourth quarter. Only one of them turned into the crucial pick-six.
Now Stafford has thrown 33 pick-sixes throughout his career, giving him the most in NFL history. He just squeaked by gunslinger Brett Favre with Sunday's crushing mistake.
Stafford explained that Denver brought the right blitz package on the play to force the errant throw. But at the same time, he admitted he should have just thrown the ball away.
“They brought more than we had, I had nobody in the backfield,” Stafford said. “Hufanga did a nice job of fighting through the Y, and I just left it back behind him. I think if I just dirt it we come away with three points. I’ll take myself trying to make those plays all day. Obviously don’t want those things to happen, but I’m proud of the way we came back, threw a touchdown on the next drive and took the lead right back.”
LA is now 1-2 on the season and desperately needs to turn things around. But Stafford is still optimistic.
“Our guys fought,” Stafford concluded. “So many guys played through a bunch of stuff tonight, not feeling their best, and I appreciate the hell out of that.”
