The Golden State Valkyries are the toast of the town after winning the WNBA Finals. The Valkyries captured their first title in just their second year in the league, proving that an expansion team can achieve success in a short period with the right mix of personnel and a clear vision.

After the Valkyries were founded in 2025, owner Joe Lacob boldly stated that the team would capture its first championship in five years. Well, the Valkyries were way ahead of schedule, beating the Atlanta Dream in Game 7 on Saturday to attain their lofty goal.

Lacob also owns the Golden State Warriors.

On Sunday, they were showered with love by fans at Chase Center during the game between the Warriors and the Los Angeles Clippers. The Valkyries paraded their shiny trophy to center court, as they were serenaded by cheers and applause.

Gabby Williams was still on a high after their historic victory.

“That was the best night of my life,” said Williams, who was named Finals MVP.

With the Warriors still groping for form, the Valkyries have been the torchbearers of the Bay Area, with Williams, Veronica Burton, Kiah Stokes, Tiffany Hayes, and Kayla Thornton leading the way. Plus, of course, the tutelage of coach Natalie Nakase and the guidance of Lacob and general manager Ohemaa Nyanin.

Nakase spent 10 years with the Clippers, working in different roles.

Before facing the Clippers, coach Steve Kerr lauded the Valkyries' inspired run, adding that he is excited for what is ahead for the young team.

Stephen Curry and Gary Payton II have also been consistent supporters of the Valkyries.
