The Las Vegas Raiders handled their business on the road in Week 8, taking out the New York Jets by a score of 38-33 in a week that saw Ashton Jeanty call out the Jets ahead of the game. Jeanty got just two carries against the Jets, which caused him to react afterward, on a day when Brock Bowers led Vegas in receiving.
Afterward, it was revealed that Bowers set a mark not seen since 2016 that shows how good he is at flexing out to the wide receiver position on the football field.
“Brock Bowers caught six passes for 87 yards and two touchdowns aligned as an outside receiver today,” Next Gen stats wrote. “No tight end has recorded more receptions lined up outside in any game since at least 2016.”
Bowers has overcome an injury-plagued start to his season to bounce back and perform well with the Raiders, as fans, media and fantasy football players alike expected. He caught seven balls for 92 yards and two touchdowns against the Jets on a day when Kirk Cousins thrived at quarterback.
Article Continues BelowCousins has shaken off calls for Fernando Mendoza to take his job and has continued to lead the Raiders through what has been an up-and-down season. Vegas lost four straight games recently, but clawed their way back to the .500 mark (4-4) on the strength of 247 yards and three touchdowns from their leader at quarterback.
The Raiders are a dark horse for making the playoffs but they're not out of it yet. November 8 brings a prime opportunity to spring an upset, and to test themselves against the 49ers in a game that could become a big stage for Bowers to excel on yet again.
