A single word from Rohit Sharma has dominated cricket conversations on social media. During a promotional clip for his new television show, the Mumbai Indians batter was pushed on whether he might switch IPL franchises, and his reply left little room for debate. The clip was shared ahead of the show's premiere on September 19, 2026. The show, Family Full House with Rohit Sharma, marks his television hosting debut.

The banter was sparked by Abhishek Nayar, a former India and Mumbai cricketer who appeared on the programme and is a close friend of Rohit. Nayar used Rohit's yellow outfit to suggest the colour pointed towards Chennai Super Kings as a possible next destination. He then went further, telling Rohit, 'Actually, actually... gold aur purple aapko zyada suit karta hai', a reference to Kolkata Knight Riders' colours. The remark carried extra weight given that Nayar is now the head coach of the Kolkata franchise.

The studio audience responded immediately, chanting 'Mumbai, Mumbai' before Rohit settled the matter. His reply was direct, 'Forever'.

Rohit has been with Mumbai Indians since 2011. He took over the captaincy in 2013 and led the side to their maiden title in his very first season in charge. Rohit is the franchise's leading run-scorer and one of only four players in IPL history to have crossed 6,000 runs. He turned 39 on April 30, 2026.
