The Golden State Warriors are fully in the swing of the preseason, scouting out some of their younger talent ahead of the upcoming campaign. All eyes have been on first-round draft pick Yaxel Lendeborg, who has had some strong moments so far during Golden State's preseason slate.
Lendeborg has quickly become known for his offbeat personality and willingness to make brazen claims about both himself and his opponents in the media, and recently, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr weighed in on that development.
“You can also see his youth with his comments in the media,” Kerr said, per Anthony Slater of ESPN. “Our fans are going to love listening to him and he's going to say some stuff that he may have to retract and hold back. But I love it. I love him. I love guys like that. We always encourage everyone to be themselves and he's got a really great personality.”
Among Lendeborg's most recent claims was that he was going to give Phoenix Suns wing Dillon Brooks “belt,” as stated during a recent live stream.
Lendeborg was long known to have a confident demeanor dating back to his college basketball days with the Michigan Wolverines, with whom he won a national championship this past season before being selected by the Warriors toward the end of the lottery.
Article Continues BelowLendeborg is the only new face who figures to be a key contributor for the Warriors this season, and he could be slotted into an abnormally big role for a rookie thanks to the injuries to both Jimmy Butler and Moses Moody.
In any case, the Warriors are slated to kick off their regular season on October 21 with a road game against the Los Angeles Lakers.
