Kyler Murray's debut for the Minnesota Vikings lasted just 11 snaps.
The veteran quarterback joined the Vikings in free agency this past offseason after being cut by the Arizona Cardinals
The first overall pick from 2019 was brought into the organization as they attempted to feel the void of Sam Darnold's departure back in 2025.
Early in the first quarter of the Vikings' 39-22 comeback victory against NFC North rivals Green Bay Packers, Murray was on the receiving end of a brutal hit.
Packers defenders Lukas Van Ness and Javon Bullard converged on the QB, causing him to be sandwiched between the two.
The 28-year-old was subsequently left in a fencing posture - a very common immediate reaction to brain trauma, but was eventually able to walk off of the field under his own power.
He was diagnosed by the Vikings medical staff with a concussion, and was ruled out for the remainder of the game.
"It was a violent, physical play," Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell stated on Monday when asked if he felt the hit was dirty.
"Obviously, from our standpoint, I don't know where that's coming from. I know the league took a look at it.
"As fast as those things happen, it would be one thing if there was a head-first slide and a clear declaration [of giving himself up]," O'Connell added."But I don't put any fault on anybody there."
Carson Wentz saw out the game, as the Vikings claimed a Week 1 win against their divisional rivals.
Murray's status for at least the next week - and possibly longer remains in some doubt.
Quarterback questions in Minnesota
Darnold wound up joining the Seattle Seahawks in free agency, and lead them to Super Bowl LIX glory in his first season under center in the Emerald City.
Meanwhile, the Vikings were left with J.J. McCarthy - a National Champion at Michigan who missed his entire rookie season due to injury.
But his first season leading the offense was one to forget, completing just 57.6 percent of his pass attempts for 1,632 yards and 11 touchdowns to 12 interceptions in 10 outings.
Dealing with injury during training camp and preseason, McCarthy wasn't just demoted, losing the starting role to Murray, but he also found himself behind veteran Carson Wentz on the depth chart.
This lead many to speculate on whether he would even be a member of the 53-man squad amid 'bust' claims.
For Murray, joining Minnesota was an opportunity for the former No. 1 overall pick to reignite his NFL career after just one winning season in seven attempts in Arizona.
Kyler Murray injury update
During his Monday media availability, O'Connell issued an update on Murray's status and whether he will be available to play in the Vikings' Week 2 visit to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
"Kyler came in feeling pretty good today," O'Connell said. "He is in the protocol, so we'll defer to the medical folks and that protocol for how the week goes. We'll just take it a day at a time.
"He was in meetings today, he's not having the symptoms where he's not in meetings or watching tape.
"We'll just take it a day a time and see how he's doing and make the determination when that time comes."
A further update was issued on Tuesday by defensive coordinator Brian Flores during an appearance with Chris Simms on the Unbuttoned podcast, who said that Murray "looks good."
Murray hasn't officially been ruled out of the contest against the 0-1 Bucs, but after Wentz had a vintage performance in which he completed 12-of-19 passing for 133 yards and three touchdowns, there won't be too much panic from O'Connell and co.
