The Golden State Valkyries won their first WNBA title in their second year of existence after beating the Atlanta Dream 68-63 in Game 7 to win the series 4-3. Gabby Williams had a historic night as she scored 30 points to lead Golden State, but she was not the only player who had a piece of history after winning the title.

The Valkyries’ Veronica Burton became only the second player after four-time champion Chelsea Gray to win both the Unrivaled league title and a WNBA championship in the same calendar year, per a post on X by ClutchPoints.

Burton won the 2026 Unrivaled championship with Mist BC in March 2026, defeating Phantom BC in the final. Gray achieved the milestone first in 2025, winning the inaugural Unrivaled championship with Rose BC in March 2025, defeating Vinyl BC 62-54 and earning Finals MVP honors, before winning the 2025 WNBA championship with the Las Vegas Aces later that year.

Regardless, it was to a great extent Williams’ night, who had 28 points in the second half, a WNBA Finals record. After the Valkyries fell behind by six points at the end of the first half, Williams took matters in her own hands.

She produced 15 third-quarter points before adding another 13 in the final period to carry her team’s offence. Williams also had four steals and two blocks, proving a major presence on both ends of the floor.

The only other players who scored in double digits for Golden State on the night were Tiffany Hayes and Burton herself, who had 11 and 10 points. Burton, as a matter of fact, finished with a double-double, also grabbing 10 rebounds along with five steals and a steal.

Burton may as well end up remembering the year as the greatest of her WNBA career, and has had a major rise since winning the Most Improved Player of the Year award in 2025.
