Gabby Williams can hold her up despite the Golden State Valkyries' painful loss to the Dallas Wings, 108-100, in overtime in Game 2 of their first-round series in the playoffs at College Park Center on Wednesday.
Williams kept the Valkyries afloat throughout the cardiac affair with her all-around brilliance. Unfortunately, her gallant stand was not enough to stave off the Wings and advance to the semifinals.
The 30-year-old star finished with team-highs of 36 points, six rebounds, seven assists, and four steals. She scored her postseason career-high.
According to StatMuse, she became the first player in postseason history to post those numbers in a game.
Williams, a two-time All-Star, shot 12-of-23 from the field, including 5-of-12 from beyond the arc. She went 7-of-7 from the free-throw line.
Kayla Thornton provided support with 13 points and six rebounds, while Kaila Charles chipped in 14 points and three rebounds off the bench.
Despite Williams' amazing performance, the Valkyries did not survive the career night of Arike Ogunbowale, who exploded for 45 points, setting a new record for most points in a game in postseason history.
It looked like the Valkyries were on their way to sweep the Wings after Williams' pair of free throws gave them a three-point lead, 93-90, with 14.6 seconds left in regulation. Ogunbowale, however, answered with a wild three-pointer to send the game into overtime and save their season.
The Valkyries are looking to advance to the semifinals in just their second year in the WNBA.
Golden State will lean on Williams, Thornton, Cecilia Zandalasini, and Veronica Burton in Game 3 on Friday.
