Chicago White Sox pitcher Sean Burke grabbed attention ahead of Game 2 of their wild-card series against the Houston Astros after uttering an unexpected comment.
When asked about his readiness to take the mound, Burke gave an all-time response: “This is my life. I don’t have family, no girl, no kids. This is all I do.”
The 26-year-old right-hander may have spoken too hyperbolically, as his dry remark quickly went viral.
After helping the White Sox beat the Astros, 7-3, in Game 2 on Wednesday to sweep the best-of-three series, Burke decided to have fun and clarified his wild claim. He posted his groufie with his family on his Instagram Story and added a hilarious caption.
“I have a family, I swear,” said the third-year pitcher.
The White Sox jumped in and shared it on X.
“This just in,” read the caption.
Burke had eight strikeouts and allowed three runs in four innings in Game 2.
Fans had funny reactions to Burke's picture.
“Phew. I was worried,” said @paigeyb88.
“Why does Sean look the most like a paid actor in this pic? LMAO,” added @mitchy_.
“What he meant to say was f*** them kids,” commented @spookylola_.
“NO WAY, I THOUGHT HE WAS JUST LIKE ME 😓,” wrote @EmilianoB47.
“I was about to invite Burke to Thanksgiving. Glad he has somewhere to go,” joked @KenWo4LiFe.
“He should still get a dog or something,” suggested @MariNotSorry28.
With romantic remarks like these, who needs a girlfriend?
The White Sox won their first series in the playoffs since beating, incidentally, the Astros in the World Series in 2005.
